Skilled Work | jobs requiring highly trained workers, with specific skills |
Social Realism | Popular art style in the Soviet Union. Often depicts idealized images of Soviet Society. |
Censorship | Restriction on access to ideas and information. Control of what people read or write or see or hear; efforts to prohibit free expression of ideas. |
Glasnost & Perestroika | Two reform movements in Russia. Glasnost was meant to provide opportunities to share new ideas. Perestroika was intended to give businesses more freedom for innovation and competition |
Privatization | To change from government or public ownership or control to private ownership or control. |
Soviet Satellite States | The other members of the Warsaw Pact, those being Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, the GDR and Hungary. Albania and Yugoslavia were also satellites for short time. |
Yugoslavia | This country was created after WWI, uniting ethnicities that spoke similar Slavic languages. Broke up in civil war after the fall of the USSR. |
Ethnic Cleansing | Process in which more powerful ethnic group forcibly removes a less powerful one in order to create an ethnically homogeneous region |
