Literacy the ability to read and write
Skilled Work jobs requiring highly trained workers, with specific skills
Social Realism Popular art style in the Soviet Union. Often depicts idealized images of Soviet Society.
Censorship Restriction on access to ideas and information. Control of what people read or write or see or hear; efforts to prohibit free expression of ideas.
Glasnost & Perestroika Two reform movements in Russia. Glasnost was meant to provide opportunities to share new ideas. Perestroika was intended to give businesses more freedom for innovation and competition
Privatization To change from government or public ownership or control to private ownership or control.
Soviet Satellite States The other members of the Warsaw Pact, those being Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, the GDR and Hungary. Albania and Yugoslavia were also satellites for short time.
Yugoslavia This country was created after WWI, uniting ethnicities that spoke similar Slavic languages. Broke up in civil war after the fall of the USSR.
