Gravity

TermDefinition
What is gravity? the natural force that pulls everything downward toward the planet's center.
What are the 2 factors that affect gravitational force? Mass and Distance
How does mass affect gravitational force? The greater the size of the mass of objects, the greater the size of the gravitational force (pull between 2 objects)
The strength of gravity is equivalent to... the distance between 2 objects.
What happens to gravitational attraction when the separation distance between 2 objects decreases? it will weaken and decrease.
What is the difference between gravitational force and gravitational attraction? pulls objects with mass toward each other the attraction between all masses
What is mass? the measure of the amount of matter an object contains.
What is weight? a measure of how strongly gravity pulls on something.
Does mass change when an object's location changes? no
Does weight change based on an object's location or the amount of gravity it bears? yes
What is the SI unit of mass? kg
What is the SI unit of weight? newtons
What is free fall? the downward movement of something only influenced by the force of gravity.
What keeps orbiting objects in orbit? gravity
Why do objects orbit each other? gravity
Why do astronauts float in space? their location
What affects the strength of the gravitational force between them and the Earth? their location.
Is mass unchanging? yes.
Is weight unchanging? no.
