Level 1 terms/definition

TermDefinition
Accuracy A measure of how close a measurement is to the "true" value
Volume Describes the amount of space an object takes up
Mass A measure of the amount of matter in a substance
Length Describes the distance between two points
Time Describes a way of measuring an event’s progress
Temperature Describes a measure of the average energy of motion of the particles
Balance An object used to measure mass
Graduated Cylinder A long, cylindrical object used to measure volume
Meter stick An object used to measure distance that uses the metric system
Thermometer Describes an object used to measure and indicate temperature. Different types are used- alcohol and mercury based.
Metric System The universally accepted method for taking measurements in science
SI Units The standard scientific unit that is used for a measurable quantity
