rhyme Repetition of sounds at the end of words
rhythm the pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables in a line of poetry
iambic pentameter a poetic meter that is made up of 5 stressed syllables each followed by an unstressed syllable. stressed and unstressed syllables.
blank verse unrhymed iambic pentameter
tercet three line stanza
sestet a six-line stanza
octave an eight-line stanza
internal rhyme Rhyme that occurs within a line rather than at the end
refrain the repetition of one or more phrases or lines at intervals in a poem
lyric poetry a short poem that expresses emotional feelings
