| descriptive, injunctive, dynamic - norms | descriptive - what people actually do injunctive - what is dis/approved by our culture dynamic - norm is or is said to be changing |
| minority influence | minority able to influence a majority group |
| normative and informational social influence | normative - conforming to fit in info influence - opinions change bc we believe who we believe to be right/correct |
| obedience | respond to a direct command from authority |
| reasons leader comes to power | exhibits boldness and confidence which makes people more willing to follow them |
| social construction of reality | reality is not objective, but it is created through active social interactions and is subjective |
| social contagion | behaviors/actions/emotions widely spread |
| social learning | acquiring new knowledge and behaviors by observing and imitating others |
| collective action | action by an individual who represents a group that aims to improve the group as a whole |
| deindividuation | the loss of self identity and awareness in a group |
| entitativity | assessment of a social unit as a group |
| group polarization | group members reinforce opinions while discussing, causing more extreme views |
| groupthink | members of a group conform to majority opinion to maintain group harmony |
| in-group bias | tendency to give preferential treatment to others of same group even when unethical |
| social dominance theory | how groups create and maintain hierarchies/leaders |
| social facilitation | individuals perform better when watched rather than alone |
| social loafing | individuals put in less effort when part of a group |
| types of leaders | autocratic, democratic, delegative, transformational |
