Experiment Research method: determines cause and effect; includes treatments
Correlation Research method: studies a predicted relationship
Case study Research method: in-depth investigation of an individual or group
Naturalistic observation Research method: data compiled by watching participants in their natural environment without manipulating a variable
Meta-analysis Research method: a study that combines the results of multiple other studies
Operational definition Definition: a measurable or quantifiable definition of the identified variable as used in the study
Informed consent/assent Ethical guideline: informing the jawns in the study about what's jawning on in the study
Debriefing to correct deception (deception to be approved by the IRB) Ethical guideline: a debrief after the study that lets jawns know what jawned in the study
Confidentiality Ethical guideline: keeping jawns' identities and such jawnfidential
Anonymity Ethical guideline: also keeping jawns' identities and such confidential
Review Board (IRB) and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Ethical guideline: if the study has been approved by either of those two jawns, it's good to go
Protection from Harm (physical and psychological) Ethical guideline: if the jawns in the study are protected from physical and/or psychological harm
