questioning Someone questioning their attraction to the same sex or gender
pansexual Being attracted to someone emotionally, romantically, or spiritually, regardless of sex, gender, and orientation
asexual People who don’t fell any sexual attraction to others
compulsory heterosexuality The idea that you have to be married and have children with the other gender, regardless of sexual orientation
sexual geography Safe places for sexual minorities to live
men who have sex with men (MSM) straight men who sleep with other men, but dont identify as gay/bisexual
sexual fluidity someone’s attraction or sexual expression depends more on the person’s personality or connection in a specific situation, not just on their body or gender.
homonegativity SUBTLE negative social perceptions/behaviors of LGBTQ+ people and suspected LGBTQ+ people
heterosexism Being straight is the NORMAL and BETTER way to be, causes unfair treatment to LGBTQ+ people
homophobia Irrational fear and discrimination to LGBTQ+ people
sexual prejudice Irrational fear toward people because of their sexual orientation (Homophobia, homonegativity, heterosexism, and internalized homophobia)
stigma Extreme disapproval, turns people into outcasts
internalized homophobia a person takes in negative ideas from society about being LGBTQ+ and starts feeling bad about themselves, like feeling guilty, ashamed, or trying to hide who they are.
hate crime the act of aggression/hatred toward someone because of their race, religion, and sexual orientation
Pulse Nightclub a mass shooting on June 12, 2016, at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida. A gunman killed 49 people and injured many others, making it one of the deadliest attacks on the LGBTQ+ community in U.S. history.
Family of choice A group of close partners, legally married couples, close friends, and neighbors who are super close and celebrate holidays and bdays
queer Alternative to LGBTQ (used to be offensive). It mean someone who identifies outside typical love and gender labels.
Klein dimensions Past, present, ideal. His scale included sexual fantasies, feelings, and identities.
Kinsey scale Emphasizes sexual behavior and attraction as expressions of sexual orientation. So… 0-1 =-1 straight, 2-4 = Bisexual, and 5-6= bisexual
sexual orientation A persons sexual or romantic attraction to people
LGBTQIA+ Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning/queer, intersex, asexual
gay/homosexual Male attracted to males
heterosexual/straight Attraction to opposite gender
Lesbian female attracted to females
Bisexual attracted to both genders
