MTA PSYC 2601 CHAPTER 4 - CLINICAL ASSESSMENT AND DIAGNOSIS

Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale an objective method of rating clinical symptoms, provides scores on 18 variables
Clinical Diagnosis the process through which a clinician arrives at a "summary classification" of a patient's symptoms through a defined system such as the DSM-5 or ICD-11
Computed Tomography (CT scan) a specialized technique where x-ray measurements of the brain are taken at various angles, which provides detailed information about the structure of the brain
Cultural Competence is a psychologist's need to be informed of the issues involved in multicultural assessment
Electroencephalogram (EEG scan) a graphical record of the brain's electrical activity obtained by places electrodes on the scalp and measuring brain wave impulses from various brain areas
Functional MRI (fMRI scan) an internal scanning technique that measures changes in oxygen levels in the blood in specific areas of brain tissue, which allows for the mapping of psychological activity
Intelligence Test a test used to establish a subject's level of intellectual capability
