analyze To look into something in great detail
connotation An idea or feeling that word suggest in addition to its literal and primary meaning
context the events, situations, or language surrounding a particular word, phrase or piece of text that help explain its meaning
context clue A hint in the surrounding text that can help a reader infer the meaning of an unfamiliar word, phrase or description.
denotation The literal or dictionary definition of a word.
author's point of view The way the author looks at a topic or subject and their attitude towards it
author's purpose The author's reason for writing, such as to entertain, to inform or to persuade
infer deduce or conclude (information) from evidence and reasoning rather than from explicit statements
theme the main subject of a talk or a piece of writing
topic a subject or part of a a conversation
inflicted cause (something unpleasant or painful) to be suffered by someone or something
