Analgesics Medications used to relieve pain without causing the loss of consciousness
Acetaminophen A common non-opioid analgesic and antipyretic used to treat mild to moderate pain and reduce fever
Aspirin A nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for pain relief, anti-inflammatory effects, and to reduce fever and prevent blood clots
Ibuprofen A widely used NSAID for treating pain, inflammation, and fever
Naproxen An NSAID used to reduce pain, inflammation, and fever, particularly in conditions like arthritis
Opioid A class of analgesics derived from opium or synthetically created, used to treat moderate to severe pain
Codeine A naturally occurring opioid used to treat mild to moderate pain and cough
Morphine A powerful opioid analgesic used to treat severe pain, especially in palliative care or post-surgical settings
Hydrocodone A semi-synthetic opioid used to relieve moderate to severe pain, often combined with acetaminophen
Oxycodone A potent opioid analgesic used to treat moderate to severe pain, often in cases of chronic pain
Fentanyl A highly potent synthetic opioid analgesic used to manage severe pain, particularly in cancer patients
Tramadol A centrally acting analgesic used for moderate to severe pain, considered a lower-risk opioid option
Methadone A synthetic opioid used for pain relief and as part of drug addiction detoxification programs
Naloxone An opioid antagonist used to reverse the effects of opioid overdose, especially respiratory depression
Buprenorphine A partial opioid agonist used to treat moderate to severe pain and for opioid dependency treatment
Celecoxib A COX-2 selective NSAID used to treat pain and inflammation, particularly in arthritis and acute pain conditions
Neuropathic Pain Pain resulting from nerve damage, often treated with specific analgesics like anticonvulsants or antidepressants
Breakthrough Pain Intense pain that "breaks through" despite regular pain management, often requiring additional short-acting analgesics
PCA (Patient-Controlled Analgesia) A method that allows patients to administer their own pain medication through a pump, typically used with opioids
Chronic Pain Persistent pain lasting for months or longer, often treated with long-term analgesic therapy
