Brain and Neurons
Lock in
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Plasticity | How the Brain is always changing and and building new pathways |
| Neuron | Makes up our bodys neural information system |
| Cell body | Neurons life support center |
| Dendrites | Bushy fibers on the end of neuron that receive and integrate information |
| Axon | A fiber that connects the neuron and passes the message on to other things |
| Myelin Sheath | Covers the axon and helps send the message faster |
| Glial Cell | Provides nutrients to Neurons and supports them |
| Action potential | A brief electrical charge that makes the neuron fire |
| Resting potential | the state of a neuron when it is not firing an action potential. |
| Depolarization | The electrical charge for generating action potential, which allows the neuron to transmit an electrical signal along its length. |
| Threshold | When excitatory transmitters pass the inhibitory transmitters |
| Refraction period | The break between when a neuron fires again |
| All or none | Neurons either fire or they don't |
| Multiple sclerosis | central nervous system disorder |
| synapse gap | the gap between two neurons |
| Neurotransmitters | Chemicals used to send a signal across the synapse gap |
| Reuptake | The neurons sent to the other neuron are taken back to be used again |
| Excitatory Neurotransmitters | Cause the |
