| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| force | a push or a pull |
| energy | the ability to do work |
| work | a force that is acting upon an object to cause the object to move (or to be displaced!) |
| mechanical energy | the ability to do work through movement or motion |

| gravity | an invisible force of attraction between any two masses (the object with the greater mass exerts more gravity over the object with lesser mass; that is why Earth revolves around the Sun and the Sun doesn't revolve around Earth) |
| friction | resistance that one surface or object encounters when moving over another (ex. Ice has much less friction than grass) |
| resistance | a force that works against something and can slow or stop it |
| pendulum | a weight on a string hanging from a fixed point above that can swing back and forth due to the force of gravity acting on it |
