Parts of Speech

TermDefinition
noun words used to describe people, places, or things
verb words that show action or "state of being"
preposition words that show time, space, or location
conjunction join words, phrases, or clauses together
adverb words that describe verbs, adjectives, and sometimes other adverbs (everything BUT nouns and pronouns)
adjective words that describe nouns and pronouns
interjection short remarks, such as exclamations, interruptions, or asides
direct address a technique used to communicate directly with a person or group of people
interrupter a word, phrase, or clause that significantly breaks the flow of a sentence
