Experiment Manipulation of the independent variable to see what effect it has on the dependent variable
Aim Statement which explains what the experiment is attempting to achieve
Hypothesis Prediction of the outcome of the study
Four types of hypothesis? Alternate Null One tailed Two tailed
Alternate hypothesis Predicts that the independent variable will have a significant effect on the dependent variable
Null hypothesis Predicts that the independent variable will not have a significant effect on the dependent variable
One tailed hypothesis Directional hypothesis that predicts the nature of the effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable
Two tailed hypothesis Non-directional hypothesis that predicts the nature of the effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable, but the direction of the effect is not specified
