| diversity | having and identifying employees accross differences (looks like different opinions, demographics) and affects inclusion |
| inclusion | a FEELING of belonging in the organization |
| 4 layers of diversity | personality, inner dimensions (gender, age, race), external dimensions (income, marital status), organizational dimensions (work content, seniority) |
| workplace diversity | the degree to which an organization includes people from different backgrounds and cultures |
| surface level workplace diversity | age, race, gender, physical/mental ability |
| deep lever workplace diversity | personality traits, values, attitudes, beliefs |
| implicit bias | set of stereotypes one unconsciously holds towards a person/group |
| workplace discrimination | employment decisions based on reasons not relevant to the job |
| intersectionality | how different types of discrimination can overlap |
| stereotype threat | fear of confirming a negative stereotype of one's own group |
| concealable stigmatized identities | people are reluctant to disclose their full identities in the workplace for fear of mistreatment/discrimination |
| equality | ensuring everyone is given the same opportunities/resources regardless of individual differences |
| equity | ensures processes/programs are fair to enhance success of all employees (opportunities for advancement, provided with materials needed, mentorship programs available) |
