InvestigatingMatter
chapters 4 and 5
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| mixture | a combination of different types of matter that can usually be separated back into its original parts |
| chemical | a specific type of matter made of particles of the same type |
| chemical change | the result when two or more types of matter interact to form a new type of matter |
| precipitate | a solid formed from a chemical change |
| physical change | a change that occurs when matter changes form in shape or size but no new matter is formed |
| interact | to recombine or exchange materials |
| How does new matter form? | when the chemicals interact and recombine |
| What is evidence of a chemical change? | formation of gas, change of color, change of odor, change of temperature, change of light and precipitate |
| physical change | . a change that occurs when matter changes form (shape, size) but no new type of matter is formed |
| what are the 3 states of matter | solid, liquid and gas |
| density | the measure of the amount of matter in a certain amount of space |
| evaporation | the process involved when matter changes from a liquid to a gas |
| condensation | to change state from a gas to a liquid |
| what are the two physical state changes that are used to shape metal | melting the solid to become a liquid and cooling the liquid back to a solid |
