QuestionAnswer
subject noun or pronoun, focus of sentence
predicate action or linking verb, tells what sentence does or is
noun person, place, thing or idea
pronoun takes the place of a noun
action verb is an action that is being performed
linking verb connects subject with a predicate adjective or noun
Adjective modifies or describes a noun or pronoun
adverb modifies or describes a verb
prepositional phrase a preposition and its object, acts as adverb or adjective
personal pronoun have person, number, case, and gender: examples: I, me, you, he, they
indefinite pronoun antecedent is not know: examples: anyone, something, nobody, everyone
antecedent noun referred to and replaced by a pronoun
interrogative pronoun used to ask questions, examples: who, whose, whom, which, what
transitive verb action verb where they action has to be performed on something
direct object receives the action of the verb EX: hit the BALL
intransitive verb action verb that stands alone
conjunction joins words, phrases, or sentences
FANBOY coordinating conjunctions: For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So
correlating conjunctions conjuctions that come in pairs: not only/but also, either/or, neither/no
subordinating conjunctions make one sentence dependent on the other: examples: because, although, since whenever
