| Microsystem | Groups that have direct contact with the individual, most influence |
| Mesosystem | Relationship between groups in different microsystems |
| Exosystemic | External, indirect factors in an individual's life that can still have an impact on development |
| Macrosystem | Outermost layer that includes cultural & societal events that affect induvial and others around them |
| Chronosystem | Individual's current stage of life in light of times |
| Authoritarian | Impose strict rules & expect obedience |
| Permissive | Give in to child's desires, do not enforce limits |
| Authoritative | Set clear rules and enforces them |
| Collectives Cultures | Emphasize community and interdependences |
| Individualist Cultures | Emphasize independence and self-expression |
| Hybrid Cultures | Blend of both cultures |
| Attachment | Infant's emotional tie to another person |
| Mary Ainsworth | Measured child's activity level, crying & signs of distress |
| Securely Attached | Feels safe & understood, uses caregiver as a secure base |
| Avoidant Attachment | Can lead to difficulties in forming close relationships & results in emotional detachment |
| Anxious Attachment | Can result in higher levels of anxiety & dependency in relationships |
| Disorganized Attachment | Displays mix of avoidant and anxious behaviors |
