Basic Ship Terms
Basic Ship Terminology
| Question | Answer |

| Port Side | Left side of the ship |
| Starboard Side | Right side of the ship |
| Forward | The front portion of the ship |
| Aft | The back portion of the ship |
| Superstructure | The navigational bridge where it is steered |
| Funnel | Smokestack where the engine exhaust comes out |
| Stern | The aft most part of a ship |
| Propeller | Pushes the ship forward - can have 2-6 blades |
| Rudder | Steers the ship |
| Bulbous Bow | A bulb in the front of the ship that helps the ship go faster |
| Bow | The forward most part of the ship |
| Deck | The outer layer of the ship that you walk on |
| Hull | The outer layer or "skin" of the ship that protects the sides |
| Keel | The backbone of the ship, at the very bottom of the ship |
