Government and its Authorities ielts words vocab

TermDefinition
prosecutor a person, especially a public official, who institutes legal proceedings against someone.
attorney a lawyer
immigration policy a set of rules and laws placed by the government to control immigration and the demographics of immigrants
imprisonment the state of being imprisoned
offender someone who commits illegal acts (which is against the law)
The Constitution a body of fundamental principles and morals in which a government should be governed in a particular state or country
ballot A system of voting secretly for a particular issue
presidential campaign A campaign in which two or more candidates of party compete for the executive position in office (goverment)
judicial branch It is a branch of the government that heads cases and interpret the law and thereby enforcing the law (usually done by the Justices in the Supreme Court)
Supreme Court the highest court in the land of a particular country in which all lower courts respond to
