Module 11

TermDefinition
Adenoids a collection of lymph tissue in the nasopharynx. They are also called tonsils.
The apex of the lung the uppermost portion of the lung.
Apical pertaining to the apex.
The base of the lung the lower portion of the lung.
Bronchioles the smallest branches of the bronchi.
bronchus or bronchi branch from the trachea and are the air tubes that go into the lung. They act as a passageway into the air spaces of the lung.
The diaphragm the muscle separating the chest and the abdomen.
The epiglottis the lid-like piece of cartilage that covers the larynx.
Inhalation breathing in and exhalation is breathing out.
The larynx the voice box.
The lobes of the lungs the divisions of the lungs.
The mediastinum the region between the lungs in the chest cavity. It contains the trachea, heart, aorta, esophagus and bronchial tubes.
Paranasal sinuses air-containing cavities in the bones near the nose.
The trachea the windpipe.
