| Term | Definition |

| Audit | A means to provide assurance enabling the sponsor to be confident that governance is working and the project is being managed as intended. Carried out by suitably skilled resources from outside the project to provide an objective view and evaluation. |
| Benefit | A positive and measurable impact of change (or) The quantifiable and measurable improvements resulting from the completion of deliverables that are accepted, utilised and perceived as positive by a stakeholder. |
| Benefit review | A review undertaken after a period of operations of the project deliverables. It is intended to confirm the realisation of the project benefits. |
| Decision gate | A point in the life cycle between phases that is used to review and confirm viability of the work in line with the business case. Also called stage gate or gate. |
| Post project review | A review undertaken after the project deliverables have been handed over and before closure of the project. |
| Review | A critical evaluation of a deliverable, business case or project management process. |
| Stage gate | A point in the life cycle between phases that is used to review and confirm viability of the work in line with the business case. Also called decision gate or gate. |
| Conformance audit | An audit of the operation of project management or other process to identify whether the defined processes are being adhered to. |
| Stage gate review | A documented review of the project’s performance, produced at predefined points in the project life cycle. |
