Urinary System Vocabulary

Acidification Conversion to an acidic environment
Acidosis Increase of acid content of the blood resulting from the accumulation of alkali or reduction of acid content; the pH of the blood is raised
Blood Urea Nitrogen A test that measres the nitrogen content in the blood urea
Congestive Heart Failure Accumulation of blood in the circulatory system caused by the inability of the heart to pump efficiently
Dialysis Passage of a solute through a semipermeadble membrane to remove toxic materials and to maintain electrolyte, and pH leves of the body system when the kidneys no longer work
Dyspepsia Heartburn, indigestion, epigastric discomfort
Edema A local or generalized condition in which body tissues retain an excessive amount of tissue fluid
Electrolyte Charged elements called cations (positive charge) and anions (negative charges)
Excretion Elimination of waste products through stools and urine
Micturation Urination
Pyelonephritis Inflammation of the kidney and renal pelvis
Urea The main nitrogenous constituent of urine and final product of protien metabolism; formed in the liver
Urolithiasis Kidney stones
