Urinary System Vocabulary

| Acidosis | Increase of acid content of the blood resulting from the accumulation of alkali or reduction of acid content; the pH of the blood is raised |
| Blood Urea Nitrogen | A test that measres the nitrogen content in the blood urea |
| Congestive Heart Failure | Accumulation of blood in the circulatory system caused by the inability of the heart to pump efficiently |
| Dialysis | Passage of a solute through a semipermeadble membrane to remove toxic materials and to maintain electrolyte, and pH leves of the body system when the kidneys no longer work |
| Dyspepsia | Heartburn, indigestion, epigastric discomfort |
| Edema | A local or generalized condition in which body tissues retain an excessive amount of tissue fluid |
| Electrolyte | Charged elements called cations (positive charge) and anions (negative charges) |

| Pyelonephritis | Inflammation of the kidney and renal pelvis |
