Module 2

TermDefinition
digestive system comprised of all the organs and glands associated with ingestion and digestion of food as it travels from the mouth to the anus. Include the mouth, pharynx (throat), esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines, liver gallbladder and pancreas.
urinary or excretory system contains the structures or organs that are concerned with the secretion and excretion of urinary products. It consists of two kidneys, two ureters, the bladder and the urethra.
respiratory system includes the organs that are involved in the interchange of gases between an organism and the atmosphere. It consists of the nose, pharynx, larynx (voice box), trachea (windpipe), bronchi, and lungs.
reproductive system comprised of all organs that are concerned with reproduction or creating offspring.
female reproductive system include the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus ( womb),vagina and mammary glands.
male reproductive system includes the testes, urethra, penis and prostate gland.
endocrine system glands that produce secretions that are discharged into the blood or lymph and circulated to all parts of the body. Consists of the thyroid gland, pituitary gland, sex glands, adrenal glands, pancreas, parathyroid glands, pineal gland, and thymus gland.
nervous system consists of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. regulates and coordinates body activities and brings about responses by which the body adjusts to changes in the environment.
central nervous system the brain and spinal cord
peripheral nervous system includes all the other neural elements
circulatory system known as the cardiovascular system and it consists of the heart, blood vessels and lymphatic system. It is responsible for moving blood through the body which contains oxygen and nutrients.
muscular system consists of the muscles of the body.
skeletal system consists of the body's bones and joints
