element a symbol on the periodic table

chemical formula a complex formula mixed with substances and others

products the substances on the right side of an equation; the result of a reaction
synthesis combining two or more substances into complex substances
decomposition breaking complex substances into simpler parts
replacement switching two substances around in an equation
synthetic material natural resources that humans intentionally combine to create a new substance. It can cause pollution.
exothermic reaction the heat gets released from the energy
endothermic reation the heat gets absorbed from the energy
chemical change changes both the form and the actual substances; usually irreversible
physical change changes the form of the substances, but no new substance is formed
chemical equation a simpler way of showing chemical reactions by using symbols instead of words
inhibitor helps slow down a chemical reaction
activation energy the minimum time it takes for a chemical reaction to start
catalyst increases the speed of a chemical reaction by decreasing the activation energy
