Conceptual definition vague, generalized
Operational definition more specific/precise, how something is measured in a given study
Internal consistency if many items are asking the same thing but worded slightly differently, they should be answered similarly.
Convergent Validity how well your measure supports other measures of the same construct
Discriminant validity your measure should not correlate with other, different measures
Criterion validity how well your measure predicts real-world behaviors and outcomes
unidimensional measure measures one thing
Multidimensional measure measures many things
The interpretation of a factor loading How strongly an item is related to a factor
exploratory factor analysis used when you are unsure how many factors to expect
Confirmatory factor analysis used when you already know how many factors you should have
bandwidth broadness of a measure
fidelity how specific a trait is
acquiescent response style agreeing or disagreeing with every item
test-retest reliability whether people score in a similar way the first and second time they take the same test (consistency over time)
construct validity idea that scores on a measure should be related to similar things and should not be related to different things
delay discounting smaller reward now instead of waiting for larger reward
stop-signal disinhibition
interval recording does the behavior happen in a certain period of time?
event recording how many times does a behavior occur?
in vivo naturalistic observation
ex vivo in a laboratory
ambulatory assessment assessment of people in their daily lives
experimental realism with respect to lab studies lab setting mimics real life
temperament natural disposition
Instrumental personality processes seeking or changing environment to fit personality
Reactive personality processes perceiving things differently from others due to personality
moderating process When a personality trait affects the relationship between a predictor and an outcome
