| heat conduction | physical property, how easily heat moves through a substance |

| magentic | physical property, is it attracted to a magnet |
| density | physical property, if the substance floats or sinks in water |
| boiling point | physical property, the temperature at which a substance begins to turn from a liquid to a gas |
| melting point | physical property, the temperature at which a substance begins to turn from a solid to a liquid |
| burns | chemical property, flames when heated |
| rusts | chemical property, certain metals do this when exposed to air and water |
| physical property | a property of that an be observed, measured, or changed without changing the substance itself |
| chemical property | the ability of a substance to change into a new substance with different properties. |
| element | a pure substance made only of one kind of atom |
| atom | smallest particle of a substance |
| molecule | two or more atoms joined tightly together |
| mixture | a combination of two or more substances that do NOT form a new substance |
| solution | a mixture with one substance spread out evenly in another substance |
| sugar dissolved in milk | solution |
| solid | has a definite shape and definite volume |
| liquid | has definite volume but takes the shape of its container |
| gas | take the shape and volume of its container |
