| self regulation | the ability to mange emotions, behaviors and impulses when faced with a tough situation |
| working memory | helps organize new information for long term storage |
| cognitive flexibility | the ability to adapt behavior and thinking in response to the environment |
| empathy | awareness of the feelings of others |
| working memory strategies | visualization, chunk information, memory games, multi sensory |
| examples of self regulation | waiting your turn, working with distractions, calming yourself down, positive self talk |
| prefrontal cortex | the CEO of the brain, planning, thinking, & decision making |
| executive functions | a set of three cognitive skills that help us plan, prioritize and sustain attention so we can achieve goals |
