Gun going off and runners taking off There's a gap between the gun going off and the runners exiting their posts; sensory gap between experience and reaction
Our reality vs. the actual event Our reality is slightly delayed
How long is our reality slightly delayed? About half a second, we are physically incapable of bridging this gap
The mind as a city It's not one single occurrence but all of the different elements that make up the mind; the economy, infrastructure, etc..
Reality The brains' ultimate construction
Thalamus Region of the brain that travels to the visual cortex
Internal Model Our brains rendered simulation
Wavelengths we can see: Only the visible light spectrum; red to violet. Our reality is limited by our biology
We perceive... ...what we've evolved to perceive
Synesthesia A condition in which the brain associates arbitrary things such as words with sensations such as color perception, smells, tastes, etc..
What causes psychotic symptoms? Chemical imbalances, brain damage
Is time always perceived the same? NO! We "slow down" perception of things when there's a high amount of adrenaline, or when our lives are at stke
Is there a time when perception is enhanced? Moments of terror are absorbed differently
Amygdala: Commandeers resources of the rest of the brain to create far more detail than in normal circumstances to ensure survival
Man given sight: Couldn't "see" correctly. Lacked facial recognition and depth perception
Man who hit granite going 120 MPH: Time slowed down and his experience felt a lot longer than mere seconds
