What is Lymph? | It is the clear, watery-appearing fluid found in the lymphatic vessels. |
What is the function of lymphatic capillaries? | The high degree of permeability of the lymphatic capillary wall permits very large molecules and even particulate matter, which cannot be absorbed into a blood capillary, to be removed from the interstitial spaces. |
There is no muscular pumping organ connected with the lymphatic vessels to propel lymph, like the heart does to blood, so what makes lymph move in the right direction? | Lymph moves through the system in the right direction because of the large number of valves that permit fluid flow only in the central direction. |
Lymph nodes, or lymph glands are? | Lymph noted are bean shaped structures that are biological filters placed in the channel of several afferent lymph vessels. |
Mechanical filtration of lymph is | when lymph nodes physically stop particles from progressing farther in the body. |
Biological filtration of lymph is | the use of biological processes such as phagocytosis to destroy particles. |
What are the structures and organs of the lymphatic system? | Lymphatic vessels, lymphatic capillaries, lymphatic ducts, lymph nodes, aggregated lymph nodes, thymus and spleen. |
The upper respiratory tract is composed of | the nose, nasopharynx, oropharynx, laryngopharynx, and larynx. |
The lower respiratory tract consists of | the trachea, all segments of the bronchial tree, and the lungs. |
The respiratory system also includes several accessory structures, such as? | the oral cavity, rib cage, and respiratory muscles including the diaphragm |
