Unit 5 Vocab Words

TermDefinition
Energy Energy is a quantitative Essene that " transferred to a body or to a physical system, recognizable in the performance of work"
kinetic energy Kinetic is The energy of motion like when someone pushes a ball forward they are transferring kinetic energy into the ball so it can move or like a car moving when you press the gas.
potential energy Potential energy is something that is stored like it has not been used yet. Like when you are holding something like a bag or a basketball neither are moving until you push or pull it
mechanical energy Mechanical energy the energy of either an object in motion or the energy that is stored in objects by their position.
position position is where something or someone is.
reference point A reference point is basically something that people use to keep track or something to go back on like a driver trying to go past their past top seeds they will use their past speed and compare it to their new to speed or like a high score in a game
motion Motion is when something is moving.
speed speed is how fast something can go
vector A vector is something that can generate magnitude and distance
velocity Velocity is when a Person or object
acceleration The rate of velocity over time
centripetal acceleration the acceleration of a body traversing a circular path
force A push or pulling motion of an object
net force the result of an object reacting on force
inertia a property of matter by which it remains at the state of rest or in uniform motion in the same straight line unless acted upon by some external force
gravity a planetary force drawing everything into its center
free fall state of a body that moves freely in any manner in the presence of gravity
orbit a regular, repeating path that one object in space takes around another one
