| speed | The measurement of the rate of change of position with respect to time |
| mass | the amount of matter in something; measured in grams |
| motion | The change in an object’s position with respect to time and in comparison with the position of other objects used as reference points |
| potential energy | Energy that is stored in a system or object |
| kinetic energy | the energy of motion |
| Law of Conservation of Energy | A law stating that energy cannot be created or destroyed—it can only change forms |
| collide/collision | when objects push on one another with force |
| force | a push or pull that can change the motion of an object |
| interacting object | objects that affect one another |
| Newton's Third Law | The law stating that for every action force, there is an equal, opposite reaction force |
| Newton | The SI unit of force, or mass times acceleration |
| spring scale | A tool that measures a pulling force by the tension on a spring in units of newtons |
