Resources things that are needed to make a product
Natural resources a type of resource that exists without human activity (ex: time, water, land)
Renewable resource a type of natural resource will be replenished over time
Non-renewable resource a type of natural resource that does not get replenished naturally
Human resource a type of resource. People with the necessary skills to create the product.
Capital resource a type of resource. The tools, technology, and man-made materials needed to make a product
Infrastructure an example of capital resource. Things that are in place to enable easier access to resources. (ex: roads, power lines)
Primary the lowest level of economic activity. Involves collecting resources (ex: fishing, farming, mining)
Secondary the second lowest level of economic activity. Involves manufacturing and processing. (ex: saw mill, car assembly)
Tertiary the second highest level of economic activity. Involves providing services to people. (transportation, entertainment, sales)
Quaternary the highest level of economic activity. Involves creating, maintaining, and developing information. (ex: scientific research, finance, insurance)
Unequal distribution of resources leads to interdependence of nations, conflict between have and have-nots, some regions developing faster/slower than others
Energy resources and technology As technology has advanced, different resources have been central to producing energy. The demand for these resources and the results of their production/consumption have created lasting effects on our world.
