mood how the reader feels while experiencing a text
monologue a long speech by one actor in a play
prologue the introduction to a play or literary work
pun a play on words that has more than one meaning
sonnet a 14-line poem with a specific rhyme scheme and number of syllables per line
allusion a reference to a cultural event, person, place, or thing that the reader should be familiar with
metaphor a comparison between two things that are otherwise unrelated
theme the overall universal message the author is trying to convey in a text
tragedy a genre of drama focusing on human suffering
summary brief accounting of the main events of the story told in chronological order and does not include the reader’s opinion
