| allusion | a reference to a cultural event, person, place, or thing that the reader should be familiar with |
| metaphor | a comparison between two things that are otherwise unrelated |
| theme | the overall universal message the author is trying to convey in a text |
| tragedy | a genre of drama focusing on human suffering |
| summary | brief accounting of the main events of the story told in chronological order and does not include the reader’s opinion |
