States of Matter
Use these cards to help you learn about the states of matter and recall vocab.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Solid | A state of matter where the shape is fixed. The molecules are fixed and have a regular shape. |
| Liquid | A state of matter where the shape can change. The molecules are loosely packed and move freely. |
| Gas | A state of matter in which the shape and molecules are not fixed, the molecules move freely. |
| Molecules | What matter is made up of. In each state of matter, the molecules are different. |
| Reversable Changes | A change in matter that can be reversed. For example, melting a popsicle stick or melting chocolate. |
| Irreversible Changes | A change of matter that can't be undone. Examples include: nails rusting, eggs cooking, or making a cake. |
| Matter | Anything that has mass and takes up space. |
| Volume | The amount of space that matter takes up. |
| Mass | The amount of in an object. |
| Physical changes | Changes in matter that only change the way an object looks. Examples include: crunching up a piece of paper. |
| Chemical changes | A chemical reaction makes something new. For example, mixing baking soda and vinegar together creates carbon dixoide. |
