Settlements

Key vocabulary to support the teaching of settlements (Southampton)

TermDefinition
Coast Where land meets the sea.
Continent One of Earth's large land masses.
Europe A continent containing 47 countries, north of Africa and west of Asia.
UK Country comprised of four nations: Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.
Settlement A place where people live.
City A place in Britain that has received the title from the crown.
Docks An enclosed area of water for the loading, unloading and repairing of ships.
Airport A complex of runways and buildings for the take off, landing and repair of aircrafts.
Diverse Including or involving people from a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds and of different genders etc.
