| specific heat | amount of energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 kg of a material 1 degree Celcius |
| radiation | thermal energy transferred by electromagnetic waves, specifically infrared waves |
| convection | thermal energy tranferred by overturning motions in a liquid or gas |
| conduction | theral energy tranferred through direct contact |
