Chapter 21 Review

QuestionAnswer
what is a solution? a homogenous mixture of 2 or more pure substanes. that is a soultion
What is solubility? the max amount of soulte that can be dissolved in a given amount of solvent @ sertien temps, this is soulbitlity.
What is satureated? a solition's concentration is at its solubility limit withn no additional solution can be disolved
What is Supper satureated? the solute concentration that exceeds normal soulbility limit under excisting conditions, highly unstable
What is a solute? the substance dissolved in the solvent in a solution; the minority componet in a solution
What is a solvent? the substance that does the dissolveing in a solution; the majority componet of a solition
Concentration of a solution the measure amount of solute in a given amount of solvent. It may be measured in units
Acids / Bases - donates hydrogen ions- acepts hydrogen ions
Ph turns a specific color in a solution may identify what the solution is
List 3 observations that would indicate that substance added to a liquid is not forming a solution a. did not disolveb. is not transparentc. can be filtered out
How can a solute be separated from a solvent in a solution? If it is a true solution then it cna't be filtered out
List and describe the 3 fracters the affect solubility a. polarityb. temp. increcec. pressure
solution process the attraction force of the solvent oversomes the attraction force of the solute, it breaks up and becomes clear
describe 3 factors that can affect the rate of solution a. tempb. grindingc. sturing
what happens to an acid in water? a hydrogen ion is produced
Describe what happens to a bace in water. hydroxide ion is produced
How does litmus paper indicates whether a solution is an acid or base? If it is a bace it turns blue.If it is a acid it turns red.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
