What are the initial different levels of organization in the body? | Chemical, organelle, cellular, tissue, organ, organ system and organism. |
What is homeostasis? | the relatively constant states maintained by the body. “Standing or staying the same,” |
What is the set point? | The normal reading or range of normal in the body to maintain homeostasis. |
To accomplish self-regulation, a highly complex and integrated, what communication control system or network is required? | Feedback control loops |
What are the four basic components in every feedback control loop? | 1.Sensor mechanism 2. Integrator or control center 3. Effector mechanism 4. Feedback |
What is the difference between anabolism and catabolism? | Catabolism is the chemical reactions that break down larger food molecules into smaller chemical units and creates energy. Anabolism in the chemical reaction that builds more complex chemical molecules from smaller subunits and requires energy. |
How is the nervous system organized? | Into the central nervous system, brain and spinal cord, and the Peripheral nervous system, nerve that lay outside of the central nervous system. |
What is the difference between somatic (SNS) and automatic (ANS)? | The SNS regulates or controls voluntary movements of the skeletal muscle. Whereas, the ANS regulates or controls involuntary effectors like cardiac and smooth muscle. |
What does a neuron consist of? | A cell body, one axon, and one or more dendrites. |
What is a membrane potential? | The difference in electrical charge across the plasma membrane. |
