TermDefinition
Wave is energy that moves through a medium (such as air, water, or solids) transferring energy from one place to another
Crest is the highest point of a wave
Trough is the lowest point of a wave
Amplitude is the distance from the rest position (or midpoint) to the crest or trough of a wave
Wavelength is the distance between two consecutive crests or troughs
Frequency is the number of waves passing a point in a certain amount of time
Mechanical Waves are waves that require a medium to travel through, like water waves or sound waves
Electromagnetic Waves are waves that can travel through a vacuum (empty space), like light waves or radio waves
Transverse Waves the particles of the medium move perpendicular to the direction of the wave
Longitudinal Waves the particles of the medium move parallel to the direction of the wave
Sound Waves How we hear music or speech
Light Waves How we see colors and objects
