Emergency situations

QuestionAnswer
Continuity of care: Maintaining a quality of care over time, such as eliminating a break in maintenance medications for a patient with diabetes.
Days' supply: The number of days that a prescription should last if a patient takes the medication according to directions.
Disaster: An emergency that requires outside assistance because of the large amount of damage or loss of life.
Emergencies: Unexpected, serious occurrences that impact the public's safety, health, and welfare.
Emergency preparedness: The steps taken to plan ahead for the safety and health of the community before, during, and after an emergency or disaster.
Emergency response: The coordinated effort to support and provide for the needs of the community affected by the event.
Human-made disaster: A disaster initiated by people or technology, such as a chemical spill, a nuclear accident, or an explosion.
Natural disasters: Disasters caused by geological or meteorological events.
Point of distribution: A predetermined central location for the quickest distribution of medical supplies, medications, antidotes, and vaccines.
Triage: Process of determining the priority of patients' treatments based on severity of medical conditions.
