Emergency situations

| Continuity of care: | Maintaining a quality of care over time, such as eliminating a break in maintenance medications for a patient with diabetes. |
| Days' supply: | The number of days that a prescription should last if a patient takes the medication according to directions. |
| Disaster: | An emergency that requires outside assistance because of the large amount of damage or loss of life. |
| Emergencies: | Unexpected, serious occurrences that impact the public's safety, health, and welfare. |
| Emergency preparedness: | The steps taken to plan ahead for the safety and health of the community before, during, and after an emergency or disaster. |
| Emergency response: | The coordinated effort to support and provide for the needs of the community affected by the event. |
| Human-made disaster: | A disaster initiated by people or technology, such as a chemical spill, a nuclear accident, or an explosion. |
| Natural disasters: | Disasters caused by geological or meteorological events. |
| Point of distribution: | A predetermined central location for the quickest distribution of medical supplies, medications, antidotes, and vaccines. |
| Triage: | Process of determining the priority of patients' treatments based on severity of medical conditions. |
