| calibrate | To initialize or set up a measuring tool to be ready for use. |
| convention | Standards by which something is usually done. |
| dimension line | A thin line, broken in the middle to allow the placement of the dimension value, with arrowheads at each end. |
| extension line | Extension lines provide a means of displaying the dimension without placing the dimension on the object. They indicate where the dimension starts and ends on the object. |
| mechanical dissection | Observing the operation of a device and describing its function and design specifications. |
| documentation | A drawing, photo, video, or text artifact that contains information about a process or product. |
| design brief | A written plan that identifies a problem, its criteria, and its constraints. The design brief is used to encourage thinking about all aspects of a problem before attempting a solution. |
| annotate | To make notes on a sketch to provide further information. |
| universal design | The design of products or environments that can be used by all people without the need for adaptation or modifications. |
| criteria | Desired specifications (elements or features) of a product or system. |
| constraint | A limitation or restriction. Constraints may include such things as appearance, funding, space, materials, and human capabilities. |
