Feudal System A political and social system based on the granting of land in exchange for loyalty, military assistance, and other services.
Hereditary Passed down by inheritance from an ancestor.
Mandate An official order or commission to do something.
Matrilineal A social system in which family decent and inheritance rights are traced through the mother.
Monarchs Rulers like kings, queens, or emperors.
Monarchy A government ruled by a king or queen.
Noble A member of a ruling family or one of high rank.
Oligarchy A government ruled by a few powerful people.
Patriarchal A society in which men hold the greatest legal and moral authority.
