| cilia | Hairlike projections that extend from the plasma membrane and are used for locomotion |
| flagellum | A long, whiplike structure that helps a cell to move |
| eye spot | A small, light-sensitive patch of pigment in certain algae. |
| pseudopod | A "false foot" or temporary bulge of cytoplasm used for feeding and movement in some protozoans. |
| chlorophyll | A green photosynthetic pigment found in the chloroplasts of plants, algae, and some bacteria. |
| secretion | a substance within an organ and discharging it |
| colony | a visible mass of microorganisms all originating from a single mother cell |
