Acyclovir zovirax (antiviral) topical- use glove to apply cover lesion completely systemic- ensure adequate hydration to prevent crystallization in kidneys. topical-burning,rash,pruritus,stinging systemic-headache,seizures,renal toxicity
Aluminum acetate solution Burrow's Solution (Astringent) for external use only, exercise caution when using in tub to avoid slipping local irritation, allergic reaction
Antihistamines Benadryl Vistaril Atarax (blocks histamine at the H1,receptor site, inhibiting many allergic reactions) avoid using with alcohol or other CNS depressants drowsiness,dizziness,confusion,dry mouth,urinary retention
Benzoyl peroxide Clearasil (Antiacne agent) Discontinue use if excessive drying or peeling occurs excessive drying of skin, allergic reaction
Calamine lotion Calamine lotion (Astrigent) for external use only.. avoid exposure to sunlight for 72 hours after use local irritation
Corticosteroids (topical) Lidex Kenalog Valisone (Antinflammatory agent) do not use occlusive dressings unless directed by a physician, washing or soaking area before application increases drug penetration superinfection,local irritation, itching,drying of skin
Fluconazole Difluvan (Atifungal) may elevate liver function test, monitor BUN creatinine headache,nausea,vomiting,diarrhea
Isotretinoin accutane (Antiacne agent) take drug with meals, avoid exposure to sunlight, contraindicated in pregnant women. sever dryness of skin,mouth,eyes,mucous membranes,nose,and nails,skin fragility,abdominal pain, nausea,joint and muscle pain
itraconazole Sporanox (Antifungal) give with food, check hepatic functions, can increase pt levels. hypertension, head ache, nausea
Lindane Kwell ( Scabicide,ovicide) foe external use only local irritation,dizziness, seizures(rare)
terbinafine lamisil (Antifungal) should be applied only externally, do not use occlusive dressing unless order by physician pruritus, local burning, erythema
tetracycline Sumycin (Antibacterial agent) topical- slight yellowing of the skin may occur systemic- take on empty stomach, avoid contact with sunlight, may cause permanent tooth dislocation when used in children topical- stinging, burning systematic- nausea,photosensitivity,diarrhea
tolnaftate aftate (Antifungal agent) for external use only local irritation
