| gas | A state of matter with no definite shape or volume |
| condensation | The change of a substance from a gas to a liquid |
| evaporation | change of a substance from a liquid to a gas |
| melting | change of a substance from a solid to a liquid |
| freezing | The change of a substance from a liquid to a solid |
| atom | the smallest unit of an element |
| freedom of movement | the way molecules in a substance move around relative to each other |
| kinetic energy | the energy that an object has because it is moving |
| molecule | A group of atoms joined together in a particular way |
| molecular attraction | a pull between two molecules that is always the same for a substance |
| phase | a noticeably different form or state of the same substance |
| temperature | a measure of how hot or cold something is |
| viscosity | a liquid's resistance to flowing |
| mass | the measure of the amount of matter in a body |
| weight | the measure of the amount of force acting on a mass due to the acceleration due to gravity |
| density | the mass per unit volume of a substance or object. |
| mixture | matter that can vary in composition |
| substance | matter with a composition that is always the same |
