QuestionAnswer
Rectus femoris (knee extension and hip flexion) anterior inferior iliac spine and ilium → patella
Vastus lateralis (knee extension) greater trochanter, intertrochanteric line, and linea aspera of the femur → patella via quadriceps tendon and tibial tuberosity via patellar tendon
Vastus medialis (knee extension, stabilizes patella) inferior intertrochanteric line, medial lip of linea aspera, upper medial supracondylar of femur → patella via quadriceps tendon and tibial tuberosity via patellar tendon.
Vastus intermedius (knee extension) anterior and lateral surfaces of femoral shaft → patella via quadriceps tendon and tibial tuberosity via patellar tendon
Biceps femoris (hip extension, knee flexion, external rotation of knee and hip) ischial tuberosity → head of the fibula and lateral condyle of tibia
Semitendinosus (knee flexion) ischial tuberosity → superior aspect of the medial portion of the tibial shaft
Semimembranosus (knee flexion) ischial tuberosity → the posterior surface of the medial tibial condyle
Gastrocnemius (powerful plantar flexion) medial head from the posterior non articular surface of the medial femoral condyle, lateral head from the lateral surface of the lateral femoral condyle → middle ⅓ of the posterior calcaneus via achilles tendon
Soleus (plantar flexion) shaft of tibia and fibula → calcaneus via achilles tendon
Tibialis anterior (dorsiflexion and inversion) superior ⅔ of anterior surface of tibia → medial cuneiform and first metatarsal (big toe)
Peroneus longus (eversion of foot and plantar flexion of ankle) head of fibula, proximal ½-⅔ of lateral fibular shaft → medial cuneiform and lateral side of 1st metatarsal base (underneath the foot)
Peroneus brevis (foot eversion and plantar flexion of ankle) inferior ⅔ of lateral fibular surface, anterior and posterior intermuscular septa of leg →base of 5th metatarsal
