ORPT Definitions
Some key definitions related to ORPT
| Term | Definition |

| Recreation | Includes participation in an activity usually involving a structured time frame |
| Outdoor Recreation | Participation in intrinsically motivating outdoor activities that depend on human-nature interaction and an appreciation of the natural world |
| Adventure Recreation | Experience in which risk, real or perceived, is a central element |
| Play | An experience that is voluntary, spontaneous, intrinsically rewarding, and absorbing |
| Flow | A state of being in which a person is fully engaged in a skillful activity, where action and awareness merge resulting in feelings of energy, focus and success. Often includes a loss of self-consciousness or for the person to lose track of time |
| Leisure | Unobligated time not devoted to work or life-sustaining activities or a state where the mind feels unencumbered |
| Therapeutic Recreation | Engages individuals in planned recreation and related experiences in order to improve functioning, health and well-being, and quality of life |
| Comercial Recreation | Enterprise that provides recreation or leisure experiences with the intent of making profit |
| Public Recreation | Funded and delivered by federal, provincial, and municipal providers – e.g. playgrounds, rec centres, pools, programs |
