Abstract Short summary at the beginning of a journal article that informs the reader about the results
APA American Psychological Association
APA format The journal article format specified by the APA
Copy manuscript The preprint version of a research report; that is, it is a manuscript that has not yet been printed in a technical journal
Discussion A section of a technical paper in which the author draws theoretical conclusions by examining, interpreting, and qualifying the results
Figure captions Descriptions of figures that appear on a page separate from the figures in a copy manuscript
Figures Graphical presentations of data in the Results sections of a research report
Introduction The portion of a technical paper that specifies the problem to be studied and tells why it is important
Materials A part of the method section in which elements other than the apparatus used to test participants are described, including surveys, videos, words presented for memorization, and the like
Method A section of a technical paper that describes in detail the operations performed by the experimenter
References Found at the end of a technical paper; only articles cited in the text of the paper are included in the Reference section
Results A section of a technical paper that tells what happened in the research
Running head In a journal article, the heading that appears at the top of the page
Short title In a journal article, the first few words of the title, which appear at the top of each page of the copy manuscript
Tables A nongraphical way of summarizing data in a technical paper. Summary values of the dependent variable are presented under headings describing the levels of the independent variable
Title Provides an idea of the contents of an article or technical paper and usually states only the dependent and independent variables
