hacienda a large farm or plantation often growing cash crops for export
Hernan Cortes conquistador who conquered the Aztecs
hieroglyphics a system of writing using signs and symbols, used by the Maya and other peoples

mestizo a person of mixed Spanish and Native American ancestry
